Indigenous Peoples' Day began in Berkeley, California in 1992 as an alternative to Columbus Day. It's now celebrated in over 100 American cities. The states of Alaska, Hawaii, Minnesota, Oregon, South Dakota, and Vermont either officially recognize it or have a similar holiday
